Change Feels Like Children Being Safe

  • Jun 3
  • 2 min read

For the children at Mnyafula Primary School, change feels like walking through a secure school gate each morning.

It feels like clean water for washing hands.

It feels like a warm daily meal cooked in a safe kitchen instead of over an open fire.

It feels like hope.

A School at the Heart of Its Community

At Compelled By Love, we believe empowered communities create lasting change. That’s why every project we support is community-led, built on the strengths and determination that already exist within the community itself. Real change doesn’t happen to a community, it happens with a community.

Mnyafula Primary School in eSwatini is the only school in the local area. For many families, this school represents not only an opportunity for education, but a place of safety and hope.

Our partnership with the school community began in 2022 when we, together with our local partner Operation Hope, collaborated on the construction of new classrooms. Last year, a new kitchen and storeroom replaced an unstable shack where snakes often found shelter and meals were prepared over an open fire. Now, children receive their daily meals from a safer, cleaner space. Concrete bases were made for water tanks, allowing the school to collect and store water for hand washing, cleaning and irrigation. That water supports better hygiene for students and nourishes a growing school garden.

Every stage of the project has been shaped by community participation, discussion and ownership — creating solutions that are sustainable for the long term.

This Is What Change Looks Like

This year, another important milestone has been completed: fencing around the school grounds. While a fence may seem like a very simple and somewhat insignificant intervention, for the children and staff at Mnyafula, it changes everything.

Secure perimeter fencing offers protection, security and peace of mind for the school community knowing that their children are safer from harm, wandering away or unwanted access from outsiders. The children are now able to play freely within protected school grounds creating a sense of security that didn't exist before. In addition, the fencing protects the school grounds from stray animals helping keep the grounds clean. This creates a cleaner environment where children can learn and play without disruption. Secure fencing has also meant that the school community can invest in a kitchen garden which provides additional nutrition for the children at the school while teaching students valuable agricultural skills for the future.

Be Part of the Change

Because of the generosity of people like you, the children at Mnyafula Primary School are experiencing safer classrooms, cleaner facilities, improved nutrition and opportunities to learn skills that will empower them for years to come.

Change is more than a statistic. It's children feeling safe. It's a community being empowered. Your support can bring change to more children. Be part of the change by donating today
