Change feels like sleeping in secure shelter for the first time
It feels like children having a safe space to study
It feels like welcoming visitors into your home without shame
A Mother Carrying the Weight of the World on her Shoulders
Juliette is a single mother based in Rwanda. For years, she and her four children lived in extremely difficult conditions in a small, deteriorating house made of mud bricks. The house had very little space for the family and the family lived in constant fear that the roof would collapse when heavy rains came.
The house carried with it not only physical hardship, but emotional shame. For safety reasons, the livestock needed to be inside with the family. Juliette and her children often avoided inviting visitors or classmates home because there simply wasn’t room, and the conditions were deeply humiliating.
Despite everything, Juliette never stopped fighting for her family. She worked cultivating fields for neighbours in exchange for food, doing everything she could to help her children survive while holding tightly to her faith and hope for a different future.
A Safe Home. A New Beginning.
Through a partnership between CARSA and Compelled By Love, Juliette’s family was provided with a new home in a neighbouring village — a place where the family could live with dignity, security and peace of mind. The new home includes strong walls, secure doors and windows, proper roofing, and a separate space for livestock. For the first time in years, the family felt relief, no longer fearing the rainy season.

The transformation was profound. The family's health has improved significantly as a result of better hygiene, and sanitation. The clean concrete flooring and separate cooking and washing areas have helped create a healthier environment for the entire family. And perhaps most importantly, the family finally has room to breathe, rest and dream again.
“I Have Regained Hope for the Future”
One of Juliette’s sons, Desire reflected on the change his family experienced. For years, Desire carried the weight of uncertainty, wondering if their struggle would end and whether they would ever experience a sense of security.
“When it comes to my family’s livelihood and our recent housing conditions; I was always asking myself when this miserable life would end, wherever I was in holidays, talking to my mum about our life, she used to tell me: ‘my son please have hope, believe in God and pray, everything will be alright, don’t worry.’ I have regained hope for the future, not only for myself, but for the whole family.”
Change for his family is living in a safe home. It is peace of mind for his mother. It is a stable environment for his younger siblings to grow and study. Change has ignited a new dream in Desire himself - a dream to one day help others in the same way his family was helped.
Be Part of the Change
This project did more than provide a family with secure walls and a roof. Stories like Juliette’s are possible because of the generosity of supporters who choose to stand alongside vulnerable families and communities.
Your support can help more families experience life-changing transformation — not only through practical assistance, but through restored dignity, opportunity and hope for the future.
This is what change feels like.
