2015 was a HUGE year for Compelled By Love! We want to say a great big THANK YOU to each and every one of you for the different ways you have supported CbL, whether that be in giving your time, your presence, your finances, or your encouragement – we appreciate all you do!
CbL was ‘launched’ in September 2015, with a series of events aimed at communicating the move from ‘3fold Community Development’ (3fCD) to ‘Compelled By Love’ (CbL) and sharing about our work. A feature of this period was a visit from Gash Namahoro, who came and shared his story with us and highlighted the work CbL is doing in Rwanda, with victims and perpetrators of the 1994 genocide. Gash spoke at the launch events as well as at a number of schools, churches and other organisations. We are really grateful to Gash for sharing his personal journey with us, and to all of you who attended these different events – thank you for your interest and support.
We’d like to say a very special thanks to our friends from Elite Manufacturing, who travelled from Taiwan to be a part of the launch of CbL and who continue to support our work – thank you so much James, Michael and your families for your generosity!
We also had some great fundraising events in October, kicking off with the Around the Bay cycling event on Sunday 11th October. The full ride is an epic 250km! The team put in a phenomenal effort to complete the race, at the same time raising funds for CbL’s work in Rwanda. The guys raised a total of $2,143.67 – huge thanks to each one that participated in the ride, and to all those that supported with donations!
Shortly after, we hosted the CbL Dinner Dance 2015, at the Gaelic Park Hall in Keysborough. This was another fantastic night with over 200 people in attendance, INCREDIBLE food, live music from Regeneration and some fantastic prizes on offer. We’d like to thank everyone who attended this event, as well as those who donated prizes. Special thanks too, to the organising committee – Steve, Renzil and Cecil – who put in a great effort to sell tickets and make this night a success, and to Silverline Caterers who delighted our stomachs with their delicious food.
Together we raised just over $8,000!!Last, but not least, we had a team of two participate in the 2015 Melbourne Marathon 10km event – Gash and Jackie. These guys did an amazing job, getting up early to do the run after attending the Dinner Dance the night before! They raised $1,150 – another great effort – once again, thanks to Jackie and Gash and to everyone who got behind them and donated.
Continue reading in the next post to find out what took place in the projects in 2015, and how these funds have made a difference in people’s lives. Each of these events will be on again in 2016, so keep an eye on the website and Facebook for more details. If you’re interested in helping with fundraising, we’d love to hear from you!
