Small Changes Make Significant Impact: Siphosethu is all Smiles

Updated: Nov 13

Siphosethu is a talented and hardworking 21 year-old student in eSwatini who is currently finishing his Associate Degree in Graphic Design. For a number of years, Siphosethu’s teeth have been a source of embarrassment and shame. For as long as we'd known him, Siphosethu covered his face and hid his smile. Severe decay meant that his teeth would need to be extracted and replaced with false teeth – a lengthy, painful but needed process.  Dental treatment would be costly and time consuming and he was unable to face this alone.

The needs of many of our students go beyond school fees and materials. Siphosethu is an example of many of our students who need medical support in addition to the education support they receive.

In Siphosethu’s case, our hearts went out to this incredible young man and we made the decision as a program to support his dental treatments, not only financially but emotionally and psychologically. The procedures were long and expensive  but completely worth the investment. Siphosethu is like a new man sporting a beautiful, confident smile:

These photos were sent to us after Siphosethu’s final treatment, along with a beautiful letter of thanks in which he shared “Now I can smile, communicate well, my confidence is much better now, in fact now I just feel like a free gentleman. You really been a great help to me. I hope your kindness doesn’t end with me, but also is to reach to more individuals vulnerable as me. I have no enough words to thank you for these good things you have done for me. You really been so much to me, and I’m really grateful to you.”
